Polar Star Mining (TSX: PSR)
Polar Star Mining Corporation is a Canadian exploration company with a focus on building shareholder value though the successful exploration discovery and development of mineral deposits in Chile.
Polar Star represents an excellent investment opportunity in a country that hosts some of the world’s largest mines. Chile accounts for an estimated one-third of the world’s annual copper production. The country is politically stable, has a progressive government and a strong mining culture.
The Company has a preeminent land position with over 370,554 hectares (3500 sq. km.) of highly prospective exploration properties throughout Chile. The properties have been acquired over a number of years based on the expertise of Polar Star’s in-country geological team.
The Company’s strategy is to gain early cash flow, continue exploration on its key properties and enter into joint ventures to explore and develop its properties.
At Chépica, in the Talca region, 220 km southwest of Santiago, Polar Star refurbished and restarted mining a gold/copper epithermal vein system in late 2011. The Company believes that Chépica has the potential to increase resources and production with further exploration and development going forward.
Polar Star’s flagship Cu-Au-Mo-Ag porphyry style mineralization exploration property, Montezuma (50,100 hectares) is located on the West Fault in the world's most prolific copper mining belt. The property straddles the geologic structures that control mineralization at Codelco Norte’s mines (Chuquicamata, Radomiro Tomic etc mines and deposits) 20 km to the north and the Esperanza and El Tesoro mines of Antofagasta Plc 20 km to the south. A new target zone, located to the west of the thrust zone drilled by Polar Star, has been identified as being a prospective source for the mineralized porphyry fragments identified from our prior drill program.
In the fourth quarter of 2011, an exclusive option agreement on 172,600 hectares of our property portfolio was announced with BHP Billiton, one of the world’s largest global mining companies. The Company also entered into joint ventures with RedQuest Capital Corporation and Kairos Capital Corporation on our Los Azules, Fortuna and Nancagua properties, respectively. These three transactions account for over half of our property inventory and re-affirm the quality and attractiveness of our portfolio.
